Did you ever ask yourself whether your writing is good enough? It is possible to be passionate in writing but do not realize how fancy you write. You may love writing and be fluent in English, but it does not immediately mean that your works are well-written.

Here are 5 Simple Tips to Greatly Improve Your Writing. These are easy fixes to enhance the readability of your works.

1. Stop stating the obvious

Some writers put too much detail on what is already obvious. More often than not, they are unaware of it. It may only sound good because these words and phrases are regularly heard in conversations. But in writing, it only adds needless words on your work.

Keep the sentences and paragraphs on point. Also, make sure that even if the sentences are short, it must have a complete and informative thought.  Here are a few examples:

"I saw it with my own eyes."

Well? Obviously, you can see it using your eyes.

"That's what I thought in my mind."

Where else? Do you think with your hands and feet?

See? It would be easier to remove the unnecessary words. Avoid stating the obvious. You can say, "I saw it" or "That's what I thought." It shortens the sentence, but still conveys the information you want to say.

2. Do not cram the details

Some writers want to be extra detailed with their work. At the same time, they want to keep everything short. Short sentences are alright. But there are some who are doing it wrong. Some writers try to cram all the information in the shortest way possible. Thus, putting all the details in one or two sentences.

While it is true that you need to put important details for your readers to visualize, you also need to write it in a way readers can easily understand. Here is an example of a sentence with crammed details.

"Jennifer Steele, a beautiful and elegant lady living in Manhattan, is a well-known businesswoman who owns multiple fast-food chains that earns millions per month."

If we break down the sentence, you can see a lot of details about the subject.

Jennifer is beautiful and elegant.

She lives in Manhattan.

She is a well-known businesswoman.

She owns multiple fast-food chains.

Her fast-food business earns millions.

And she earns that per month

Can you see how much information was crammed into one sentence? When you write, focus on the details necessary for the progression of your work. It should be easily understood and absorbed by your readers. You can break it into two or three sentences as long as you can keep it interesting for your readers.

One rule, your sentences should not reach 20-30 words. If it exceeds, make sure you do it with care.

3. Use simple words

Readers do not really care about how deep your vocabularies are. If they can't understand it, they stop reading. When publishing on the Internet, readers with different fluency, age, and language can easily reach your work. If you want them to read it, keep everything simple and informative.

Here is an example of a difficultly constructed sentence.

"I perceive prodigious enmity because of his felony to my brother."

Readers would surely take a second look at that sentence. It simply means "I feel hatred because of his crime to my brother." Difficult sentences attract attention themselves. It takes time to both read and understand. We are not competing for the best vocabulary when we write. Our goal is to catch the interest of the readers. So, use simple and easy words in constructing sentences.

4. Use appropriate adjectives.

Take a look at this sentence.

"I found her leaning on the wall beside a huge floor-to-ceiling, window-facing door."

Notice how the adjectives were used? The moment people read "huge floor-to-ceiling, window-facing door", their excitement has already fallen. Do not exaggerate the description. Find what is appropriate and do not settle with a wrong adjective just because the right word still sticks at the tip of your tongue.

In other words, if you need an encyclopedia, then find an encyclopedia. Do not use an almanac just because they are both books. Always make sure that the adjectives you use are perfectly fit.

5. Research about your Topic

A good research is the key. When you write, you write with good content. Whether you write a fiction or not, a good research can make a big difference in your output.

For example, you are doing a fiction about war. If you want to create a believable story, then you do a research about it. Know about history, places, timeline, and people that you can use as a base of your story. If it's about mythology, read about the characters and events that you can use for your writings. A fiction is where imaginations of the writer become believable to readers. If readers do not believe it, then you fail at some point.

If you are writing an article, then it is more important that it is based on facts. Avoid writing things like "it is the best" or "it is super effective" generally. It's obviously a fluff. But if it's your own blog, then it may be acceptable.

Keep in mind that when readers read your work, they should learn something from it and not leave empty-handed. It is more accomplishing for a writer that a reader is satisfyingly reading your work.
